Russ Newman

First and foremost it’s a great honour to take on the reigns as Club Captain. The work from previous skippers has been admirable and many hours behind the scenes go unnoticed. So I’ve got  some big shoes to fill!!

Having been at the club for a few years now I know all about the clubs potential both on and off the field. I joined the club originally as the Head Coach of the Seniors where we had some very challenging seasons. From barking orders on the sideline to then playing most weeks, I’ll be drawing from a lot of experiences learnt about the squad as we go forward into what is going to be the strangest season to date.

On paper, our back line is the strongest I’ve seen since being at the club. Some former colts gained a lot of experience last year and we’ve pulled in a few great players too. The fact we are able to attract these types of players is testimony to all the hard work completed to the clubs facilities over the past few years.

The junior section is forever growing, and it’s great to see so many senior players now coaching on a Sunday morning too. Everyone striving to help one another improve all areas of the club.

I’ve got a lot of passion for the game, and to help grow the club is one of the reasons for taking on the responsibility as Captain. The role is far bigger than just leading a team on a Saturday afternoon (That’s the reward for all the hard work during the week)!

Whether you’re a team mate, junior player, parent, coach, or committee member; I’ve always got time for a chat and to help out where possible.
