Brackley cruised to a convincing 46-17 bonus point win away to Kempston on Saturday.
The match was played at Chicksands Military Barracks as Kempston’s pitch was waterlogged and the Chicksands pitch itself could be best described as soft after the wet weather. Brackley looked dangerous from the off with their powerful runners punching holes in the Kempston defence.
Despite Brackley’s strong start, it was the hosts who got on the board first through a penalty. The visitors replied with two penalties of their own and continued to put pressure on Kempston, which eventually led to prop Dan Kimber crashing over to take Brackley into half time up 13-3.
In the second half Brackley started going through the gears and played some scintillating rugby. Their second try came when replacement full back Phil Brinklow made a scorching run beating several players before dotting down under the posts. This seemed to open the floodgates with the hosts not being able to cope with Brackley’s speed of play, as the visitors added four more tries through Andy Mawle, Dan Gray, Henry Pearson and a second from Brinklow.
Kempston did show they were willing to fight until the end as Brackley seemed to lose concentration in the last 10 minutes allowing the hosts to get on top despite the game being all but lost. Kempston were able to add two tries before the full-time whistle to make the score a more respectable 46-17.
Next week Brackley will try to make it a clean sweep of wins this month when they host Wellingborough O.G’s at Nightingale Close.
