This Saturday begins the first teams campaign in Counties 2 Midlands East (South). a league not know to this team for nearly 10 years.

The whole senior section has benefitted from a huge coahing outfit this pre season with a total of 4 coaches dedicated to the senior setup with assistance from the 3 coaches looking after the Colts section. This has proved vital as the team enjoyed 2 outings against local team Northampton BBOB under the lights where after a scrappy first quarter saw the guys come away with a 7-17 win. The next game saw the squad travel north up the M40 to Birmingham & Solihull who also achived promotion to the same level. After 2 previous meeting with the Bee's with them snatching victory both times by only a few points this was sure to be a cracking game. The back line were firing on all pistons with both Christian Mann and Charlie Bethell returning to the squad to give the side a 19-40 win over the strong Birmignham based outfit.

1st XV captain Christian Mann had this to say on the squad
"We have had a solid pre-season which has put us in a strong and positive position heading into the league season. It’s been great to have players returning from injuries and new players join the club, creating lots of depth amongst the squad. Can’t wait for this Saturday!"

After last seasons successes and the team eventually being named champions; the club has gone from strength to strenghth, local lad Tommy Gray returns to the setup this season after a fair few seasons away most recently with Banbury 1st XV where they held onto their place in Regional 1. The clubs second team are set to return after 4 years out in a weeks time, if you are interested in playing please get in touch with 2nd team captain Dickie on dickie.clements@brackleyrufc.com.

Training has been hard work for the group as they look to implement the new and old systems with a whole host of new features bolted on.

Head coach Cy Philp added
"I'm looking forward to Saturday's match and starting our league campaign. We have a great group of players with many from our league winning side from last year still around. Lots of new players have also arrived and already integrated nicely here at Brackley Rugby Club. The players have already shown they will not let each other down and this was re-enforced by two fantastic pre-season games. Plus the fantastic supporters we have behind us being that 16th player will make this season very entertaining indeed"

Bedford Queens are making their way over from the east as they are welcomed to Nightingale Close for the first match of the season. They managed a 10th place finish but comfortably avoiding relagation by 28 points meaning a strong first contest for the boys in blue and white.

Kick off is 3PM on Saturday 2nd September at Nightingale Close. Bar and kitchen open from 2PM. As always free entry. Join us for what is set to be a fierce first outing.
