Bedford Swifts RUFC
Brackley RUFC

Despite the wet conditions it was a near perfect weekend for Brackley as both the 1st XV and Development Team clinched wins.

The 1st XV had an away trip to Bedford to take on the always challenging Bedford Swifts. Going in on the back of three wins on the bounce and with just one point separating the two sides, this was a must win game for the visitors as they look to challenge for a promotion spot.

Brackley started the better having control of possession and territory, moving the ball really well out wide. This early control reaped rewards as Chris Goodall opened the scoring which was soon followed by Dan Rolfe who crashed over in midfield following a lineout in the corner to make it 12-0. This ignited Swifts who scored a try of their own in return, making it 12-7 at half time.

Things weren’t going ideally for the visitors though as they picked several injuries forcing them into using all of their subs in the first half. However Brackley showed excellent spirit and dogged determination to hold onto the lead as neither side added to the scoreboard in the second half with the match finishing 12-7 to the visitors.

Back in Brackley, the Development Team hosted Northampton Outlaws in horrendous conditions which made it tough for both sides. Brackley had the better of the teams for the majority of the match and went into half time 10-0 up following tries from Mark Ashton and Gareth Rees. Despite no improvement in the weather, Brackley played some excellent attacking rugby to add three further tries through Ken Marshall-Grant, Tom May and a second for Rees to win 25-0.

Next week sees Brackley 1st XV host Biggleswade in what should be an excellent day at the club with the Presidents Lunch taking place during the afternoon. The Development Team will also be in action away to Daventry 2nd XV.
