Brackley RUFC

47 - 0

(HT 42-0)

Thorney RUFC

Brackley got their first win of the season on Saturday as they put in a convincing performance against Thorney, running in 8 tries in a 47-0 victory.

The hosts were the dominant side throughout the 80 minutes and had an ideal start, when after some early pressure full back Phil Brinklow scored in the corner just 5 minutes in. Brackley had a clear strategy of pinning Thorney back in their own half before piling on the pressure, which led to the second try as second row Stefon Webb crashed over to make it 13-0 following an earlier penalty by Dan Gray.

Thorney seemed to be tiring and Brackley took advantage throughout the second quarter of the match after Dan Rolfe ran in a 40 metre interception. The tries started coming quick and fast with Matt Lowe getting the bonus point score after an excellent run by Brinklow. Scrum half Brad Morgan was the next man to get his name on the scoresheet, throwing a dummy 5 metres out to score under the posts untouched. This was immediately followed by Rolfe's second try on the stroke of half time to make it 37-0 at the break.

Brackley continued to add to the scoreboard early on in the second half, when man of the match Morgan scored a brilliant individual try, stepping his way past a couple of Thorney forwards before grubber kicking through and winning the race to the ball. Webb then finished off the scoring with his second try after some substantial Brackley pressure and good work between the forwards and backs. The only negative from the game would be the hosts didn't score more especially in the final 20 minutes as the game became quite scrappy with both teams tiring, leading to mistakes.

Brackley will be able to rest and recover as they enjoy a week off next Saturday and will instead watch England's final World Cup group game against France, which will be shown on the big screen at the club. The next match for Brackley will be in a fortnight away to Wellingborough O.G's.
